When I was trying to find a temporary face claim for making videos, which originally were just for a friend to watch, I found a free-to-use png tuber model of Master Chief from Halo. He felt cozy enough that I used him and planned to keep using him for a while.

From there it took a while before I finally started but I did end up recently touching Halo! I don’t own the games and not in a space where I could get them right now, so instead I thought I’d go the way of Video Game Movies as I found they were often called. A nice way to learn the lore without needing to play. Plus I don’t often play shooters anyway, and the ones I do I often prefer a different style of play than it looks like Halo might allow but who knows what the future will hold and if I’ll end up picking them up anyway.

But point is since I was going for lore and not game play I thought I’d go with the chronological order of watching the games, get the story in the way it happened.

And because why not, I’m also when it comes up, watching different versions of the same game to see differences. Taking notes of any I might want to play myself later and the like.

So far I’ve watched Wars, and the Definitive Edition (terrible name for a terrible looking game to me) which the original Wars so far has extremely caught my eye! The story was exciting to follow and got me so curious. Like it was the perfect game to make me happy to try this journey into a new media. I want to play it. I want to explore this world and learn more. I know so little of anything going on yet it was done so well to keep me wanting more either way. Can’t complain about that!

Reach was quite the opposite. It felt like a very much need-to-play to enjoy. Things didn’t feel very engaging, though it was very smart in how it was easily making all the missions seem to go together and keep Six involved. I wish they did play a little more with the whole ‘black ink’ thing for Six, but hey. Definitely did enjoy bits I found myself mostly bored like it couldn’t keep my attention. Still I finished it all the same. Best scene? When Jorge grabs Six during the hand shake before he goes to do the suicide mission and just.. doesn’t let go. Picking him up while still talking before throwing him out the window. Wonderful in every way.
